Biog for work with Wayne Sables
Adam Rutherford is a freelance Creative Practitioner. He trained at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance, studying a Degree in Dance Theatre. Upon completion he became a member of Transitions Dance Company, touring nationally and internationally the work of five renowned choreographers including Henri Oguike (Henri Oguike Dance Company), Ben Wright and Luca Silvistrini (Protein Dance). As a dancer in Transitions he also gained his Graduate Diploma Certificate in Performance. Adam performed professionally as a dancer with Full Force Dance Company (Helen Parlor – Motionhouse) before becoming a member of New Adventures, (Matthew Bournes’ ‘Swan Lake’). He then performed commercial jazz and musical theatre as a dancer on passenger cruise liners. He completed two world cruises and obtained the role of Dance Captain before returning to the UK. Upon his return he became a member of 2Faced Dance Company. He toured nationally in ‘State of Matter’ as a dancer before becoming the Rehearsal Director for 2Faced. He remained Rehearsal Director and dancer for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2009 and UK tour. When a member of 2Faced he also performed in ‘DanSense’ by Enrique Cabrera for Birmingham DanceXchange and ‘Watch This Space’ by Hofesh Shechter as part of the International Dance Festival Birmingham. Adam has seven years professional teaching experience, delivering workshops to all ages from primary to tertiary levels both in the UK and abroad. His choreographic and teaching experience includes creating work for Cheltenham and Gloucester Youth Dance Company, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Birmingham DanceXchange, 2Faced Youth Dance Company, Attitude Youth Dance Company, Resolution! and Telford and Wrekin ‘Find Your Talent’ initiative. He has taught BTEC Dance part-time at Lincoln Backstage Performing Arts Academy as well as working freelance for various organisations including North East Wales Dance. Most recently he has completed a research and development period for The Clod Ensemble at Sadler’s Wells and danced for Helen Parlor in her piece ‘A Fools Journey’ for the Milton Keynes Fringe 2010. From January 2011 Adam will be teaching contemporary technique for the Centre of Advanced Training (CAT) at Birmingham DanceXchange as well as becoming a dance artist/choreographer for West Midlands Boys Dancing project.
