I’m Scared To Be Alone – leaflet?
‘I’m not scared to be alone’ (working title) is a dance theatre and film solo combining the two elements in a new and innovative way. The premise for the piece is based around the concept ‘perception is reality’ and will consist of live streamed dance theatre and pre-treated film. The filmed work represents the internal expressions of the performer; it’s the thoughts that we dare not let out, our inner most private dark inklings. In contrast the live-streamed work represents and explores our public sides, the side society deems socially acceptable, the side that is safe for us to show. Through combining dance, film, environment and differing emotions I will create a 30-minute piece that will challenge our perception of traditional live dance theatre. The show is always live but the audience and performer are never in the same place at the same time. We are challenging the way an audience view live work from within a traditional theatre context. ‘I’m not scared’ will consist of a performer, six cameras placed at key positions across the stage and three large screens.
‘I’m not scared’ will be touring the UK in Autumn 2010 and the USA Autumn 2011.
Is It Me? 2008 (link to our poster – .pdf file – Adobe Reader required)
Three men travel their own individual journeys as they begin to deal with their thoughts and feeling at a relationship breakdown. Gradually they become aware of each other’s presence within the same space and each begins to find solace and comfort as their own journeys cross and collide with one another.
Only Human 2008 (link to our poster – .pdf file – Adobe Reader required)
‘Only Human’ is a remake of WSP’s last female show ‘The Human Condition’ which dealt with feelings of angst and loss at the dissolution of a relationship from a personal perspective.
‘It was emotionally and psychologically engaging. The ultimate futility of individualism and the struggle for equality and freedom within human relationships. The shifting roles within the triangular relationship of the dancers communicated themes of power, dependency and rejection.’
Audience member on ‘The Human Condition’ 2007
Set between the desolate waste ground under the M1 motorway in Sheffield and a disused derelict Victorian school the film begins to deconstruct a man’s angst at the dissolution of a relationship.
The mixture between raw visceral environments, wide-open desolate spaces with a confined claustrophobic surrounding represent a state of mind.
Created for three females “the human condition” explores our failings as people, our inability to commit fully to another person. It is a collection of thoughts, feelings and emotions linked to the final stages of a relationship breakdown.
A short dance film exploring the reaction when contemporary improvisational dance is places in a non-theatre context. Performed on the streets of Leeds a man moves in solitary.
