Cover Letter:

I have been working in filmmaking with a speciality in documentary filmmaking since 2009 after I changed careers from contemporary dance to film.  I’m an independent filmmaker and, as such, I am used to working with a range of partners to deliver a project’s outcomes. Being freelance enables me to be flexible in a wide range of ways when making films. I work across the entire filmmaking process from planning, scheduling, organising to filming, handling sound and lighting through to editing and colour grading. This means I can respond quickly to changes/edits.

Collaboration is at the heart of my practice. Working closely with key stakeholders is key to delivering films and projects that fulfil project briefs and create a space that is both cinematic and has storytelling embedded throughout. It’s important to me that each film I make not only says what it needs to say but has an impact on those experiencing and watching it. I am passionate about telling stories through film, photography, and digital technologies.

Collaboration is at the heart of what I do as a creative filmmaker, although I am experienced at the whole film production process and am comfortable solo shooting. I really value collaborating with others, exploring new perspectives, and sharing opinions and thoughts on how we tell a story in the most thoughtful and cinematic way. Previously I have collaborated with RMBC and CCoC, I have an understanding of the process and pride myself on my approach and ability to create work that fits within the brief and brings the brand to life in film.

Throughout my time working in film production, I have partnered with a wide range of clients and organisations ranging from charities, museums, libraries, theatres, independent artists, and companies across manufacturing, supply chains, hospitality, and local government. I pride myself on being an effective communicator and creative facilitator. I am highly organised and able to be responsive to changing environments and challenges. As a matter of course, I always carry a myriad of equipment so that I can respond to any situation that should arise.

To fulfil the brief, I propose to approach it with adaptability. As there are a range of events/projects to cover, it's important to be adaptable in approach. My role will switch from being ‘invisible’ to capture events to, in an open, authentic way, being open and conversational with audiences/participants, etc., in order to put them at ease when being filmed to enable them to interact in a way that is relaxed and comfortable. To create a range of films that all have their own narrative and identity as well as fitting within the CCoC brand and identity, I propose to use a range of equipment and techniques. To film all the content, I will use one or two Canon R5C cinema cameras (depending on the specific needs of the shoot) and a professional drone to capture aerial, wide-angle/perspective/context shots. To enhance the feel and quality of each film, I will use a range of peripheral equipment such as tripods, steady rigs, mobile lights, and a range of lenses. This will help create cinematic films that showcase the people/place/projects in the highest quality and engage audiences in high-quality storytelling that directly reflects the high quality of the CCoC programme. Audio is crucial to my process. I use a dual audio recording system, which means that I can create broadcast-quality audio that is separate from the visuals (I link them in post-production). This approach means that if we are recording in a busy environment, I can clean the audio and have a better chance of removing any unwanted background noises. An added benefit is that should the audio be required separately, it can be. It also makes it easier to repurpose any audio for other mediums such as podcasts, radio interviews, etc.

At the heart of what I do is storytelling. I love making films, meeting new people, and capturing their stories. My medium is film and photography, and I see my role as telling the stories being presented in an open, authentic way. To enable this, I feel my personable, human-centred approach will allow those being interviewed to be themselves.

I have a completely mobile cinema film camera and professional editing set up, and my own transport, so I can film both in venues and on location as needed. If needed, I can edit remotely in my studio or on site with groups and participants to enable them to have an insight and creative experience in the post-production part of the filmmaking process.

I feel that I am well placed to undertake this film project as I have experience working in a range of styles and environments with a wide range of partners and stakeholders. I am personable and pride myself on making people feel at ease on camera. Having a background as a performer, I have experience being on camera and know how draining it can be, so I have developed a range of techniques to help people feel relaxed. As an indie filmmaker, I handle the entire filmmaking process, which means I can be more comprehensive when shooting and editing as I can develop/adapt the story as needed in the moment, being responsive.

Currently, I am available all of the proposed dates. I pride myself on my flexibility and adaptability and, as such, will endeavour to be as available as possible to fulfil the commission.

I have public liability insurance up tp £5,000,000 and and DBS checked. I am happy to have a new DBS if needed.

I have a portfolio on my website that showcases a range of film and photography projects, including long and short-form films and documentaries (https://www.waynesablesproject.co.uk/our-work).
